Gregg Green
Executive Director
Gregg graduated in 1998 from Whitworth University in Spokane, WA with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Certification in Youth Ministry. In 2004 he went on to earn a Master’s of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, NJ and most recently a Master of Public Administration and Non-Profit Management from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington in 2014.
Gregg completed the Chaplain Officer Basic Training Course at Fort Jackson, SC in 2007. He has specialty training in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from Trenton Psychiatric Hospital in Trenton, NJ (2003); ASSIST Suicide Prevention from Fort Lewis, WA (2007); Battlemind – Crisis Intervention and Resiliency from Fort Sam Houston, TX (2008); and Emergency Medical Ministry from Tripler Army Medical Center, HI (2008). Originally ordained by the Presbyterian Church USA in 2004, Gregg has served congregations in Washington, New Jersey, North Carolina and in the Army as a Chaplain.
Gregg is the owner of Great Harvest Bread Co, in Greenville NC and was the recipient of the 2020 Pitt County Small Business Leader of the Year by the Pitt County Chamber of Commerce. Gregg currently sits on several local non-profit boards and oversees the Living Generously Philanthropic Fund. He also works closely with the Foundation of NC East advocating for and enabling veterans to receive hyperbaric oxygen treatment for traumatic brain injuries and military-service-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Gregg is an active member of Opendoor Church in Winterville, where his ordination now resides. Gregg and his wife Kim have four children – Eli, Amelia, Norah, and Audrey. Gregg spent many years as a child of a single parent and intimately understands the challenges that single parenthood poses to both parent and child.
Amy Gurd
Administrative Manager
Amy has been in Greenville for 23 years and has been married to Jason Gurd for 25 years, they have 3 children at home, 2 adult children and 1 granddaughter. Amy homeschools her 3 youngest children and is very involved with Classical Conversations community in Greenville. They are also active members of Covenant Church and various other activities that keep the kids active! Amy graduated from ECU with a degree in Elementary Education and taught for 10 years before staying home to be a full time mom while working part time for Jane Fortune Counseling. While being home with her family she was given the opportunity to serve in women’s ministry with Covenant as well as with Younglives as a mentor and currently the food coordinator. Over the last few years Amy has felt God calling her into more ministry positions and Nehemiah Initiative is a perfect fit for her desire to work with single parent families in an administrative role.
Kasey Saunders
Program Coordinator
Kasey lives in Pitt County with her husband, two sons, and their family dog. With roots in western NC, she has called Pitt County home for over twenty years. She is a two-time graduate of East Carolina University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and Family Relations along with a Master degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Kasey has been licensed in the state of North Carolina as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2010. Over the years, Kasey has been fortunate to have worked in various roles in the communities of eastern North Carolina. Her career has largely focused on working with children and families. Through her work with individuals and families, she continues to be inspired and blessed by the strength, resiliency, hope, and perseverance of those she has met along the way. She is passionate about whole-person wellness, families, relationships, mindfulness, child development, equality, and social justice. Kasey is thrilled to be a part of The Nehemiah Initiative, seeks to connect with and understand others and hopes to bring compassion, hope, support, encouragement, and empowerment to those she meets on this journey!
